Last Will and Testament of

Daniel Green  -  1762

In the name of God Amen I Daniel Green of the Parish of West Thorock (sic. West Thurrock) in the County of Essex farmer being in sound mind and memory but in an infirm state of bodily health do think it a duty incumbent on me to make my Last Will and Testament and as to the worldly goods I die possest of I will and bequeath in the manner following

I will and bequeath to my dear wife Jane Green the sum of two hundred pounds, one hundred pounds to be paid her within one year after my decease and the other hundred pounds to be paid her within two years after my decease But if the said Jane Green dies before the first twelve months expires then the said two hundred pounds to be equally distributed amongst the children of William Gurnet (sic. William Gurnett) and John Curtis (that is to say) John Gurnet, Ann Curtis, Thomas Curtis and William Curtis

I will and bequeath to my dear wife Jane Green the furniture of the parlour and best bed chamber as now standing

I will and bequeath to my dear wife Jane Green the sum of ten pounds to subsist on till the first legacy is paid and I will and bequeath to my dear wife Jane Green the further sum of five pounds for mourning and I will that the said fifteen pounds be paid her within one week after my decease

I will and bequeath to my brother William Gurnet the sum of one hundred pounds, fifty pounds to be paid one year after my decease and the other fifty pounds to be paid within two years after my decease

I will and bequeath to my sister Mary Curtiss (sic. Mary Curtis) the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid in the same manner as my brother Gurnets is to paid

And I will and bequeath to my brother Thomas Green all the residue and remainder of the worldly goods I die possest of whether money, stock of corn, cattle of all sorts, household goods or any other thing or things let them be called by what name soever they will

And I do hereby constitute and appoint Thomas Green and William Green of West Thorock in the County of Essex farmers joint executors of this my Last Will and Testament not doubting but they will execute the same to the best of their powers

I will and bequeath to my brother John Curtiss and Mary his wife the sum of five pounds each to buy them mourning

I will and bequeath to the three children of the said John and Mary Curtiss the sum of five pounds amongst them for mourning

I will and bequeath to my brother Willam Gurnet and his wife the sum of five pounds each for mourning

And I will and bequeath to the son of the said William Gurnet the sum of forty shillings for mourning

And I will and bequeath to William Green the sum of ten pounds for his trouble of being executor

And I do hereby revoke all former Wills made by me and acknowledge this and this only to be my Last Will and Testament To the truth of which I have set my hand and seal the twenty seventh day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty two

Signed sealed and acknowledged to be the Last Will and Testament of the said Daniel Green in the presence of us  Wm Wood, Benj. Wells

Proved the seventeenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty two before the Worshipful James Marriott Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oaths of Thomas Green and William Green the executors to whom administration was granted having been first sworn duly to administer.
