Last Will and Testament of

Thomas Green  -  1763

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Green of the Parish of West Thurrock in the County of Essex Yeoman being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory praised be God for the same do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament first I commend my soul to Almighty God my creator hoping through the mercy and the merits of my Saviour Jesus Christ to enjoy eternal life and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried and as to such worldly estate which hath pleased God to bless me with I give and dispose thereof as follows

I give and bequeath to my loving wife Sarah Green her executors administrators and assigns the leases of two farms for the remainder of the terms of years now to come and unexpired therein the one held of George Errington Esquire situate in Grays Thurrock in the said County of Essex and the other called Davy Down situate in the Parishes of West Thurrock and Stifford in the said County held of the Trustees of Cobham College together with the crops that shall be standing or growing on the said farms at the time of my decease and also six of the best horses fourteen of the best cows and fourteen of the best calves that shall be upon the said farms at the time of my decease and also one bull and the same wagons and carts that usually belonged to the said farms together with three ploughs and a set of harrows and harness and utensils for the said horses both for plough and cart and also four score ewes to be taken out of the sto? Ewes that are in the meads belonging to the farm wherein I now dwell situate in West Thurrock aforesaid

Also I give and bequeath to my said wife all the beds bedding and household goods and furniture whatsoever that shall be any ways belonging unto me at the time of my decease as well in the house wherein I now dwell as also in the other farms above mentioned and also the sum of thirty pounds to be paid her within one week after my decease

Also I give and bequeath to my said wife for the term of her natural life the yearly sum of twenty five pounds to be paid her by my brother in law John Curties (sic. John Curtis) of Stanford le Hope in the said County of Essex Yeoman on Lady Day in every year during her life

Also I give and bequeath to my brother in law William Gurnett of Wennington in the said County of Essex Yeoman the sum of two hundred pounds to be paid him at two several payments that is to say the sum of one hundred pounds part thereof to be paid him twelve months after my decease and the remaining sum of one hundred pounds within twelve months then next following and also all my wearing apparel (except shirts) the same to be delivered to him within one month next after my decease

Also I give and bequeath to John Wood son of William Wood of Woolwich in the County of Kent Butcher the sum of twenty pounds to be paid him within twelve months after my decease

Also I give and bequeath to William Green of West Thurrock aforesaid Yeoman the sum of five pounds to buy him mourning

Also I give and bequeath to my said brother in law John Curties his executors administrators and assigns the crops and stock that shall be growing lying or being upon my two farms situate in West Thurrock aforesaid the one wherein I now dwell and the other called Madleys Farm (except what is herein before disposed of) together with all the rest residue and remainder of my money goods chattels estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever subject nevertheless to the payment of my just debt funeral charges and the said annuity of twenty five pounds a year to my said wife and the other legacies herein before mentioned

And lastly I do nominate and appoint my said brother in law John Curties and my said wife Sarah Green jointly and severally executors of this my said Will hereby revoking and making void all former Wills by me made and I do declare this to be my Last Will and Testament and none else

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the thirtieth day of June in the third year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty three

This Will was proved at London on the twenty eighth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty three before the Worshipful George Harris Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Sir Edward Simpson Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oaths of John Curties and Sarah Green Widow the relict of the said deceased the executors named in the said Will to whom administration of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased was granted they having been first sworn duly to administer.
