was christened on 13 Dec 1754 in Horndon-on-the-Hill, Essex2. He
was buried on 17 Mar 1803 in Horndon-on-the-Hill2.
As well as breing my ancestor John Spitty is the g-g-g-grandfather of
former Australian Prime Minister Sir William McMahon "Billy", PM for 21
mths in 1971/2.

John together with his brother William inherited the farms Horndon House
and Great Ilford Marshes from their father in 1771. See their father's Will.
John himself died intestate and administration of his estate was granted to his
widow Anna on the 12 Feb 18041.
He appears in the Horndon-on-the-Hill Land Tax records
from 1781 - 1803 (not checked before 1781) paying the tax on
land/properties owned by others.
A typical years entry is that of 1789 :-

He was married to Anna CURTIS by Licence on 18 Jul 1776 in Horndon-on-the-Hill2.
Anna CURTIS
was christened on 10 Sep 1755 in West Thurrock, Essex3. She was buried on 20 April 1814 in
West Thurrock3.
The marriage entry in the Horndon-on-the-Hill Parish Register
records Anna as being from the Parish of West Thurroch.
The marriage was by Licence which read as follows (sumarised):-
"John Spitty of Horndon-on-the-Hill aged twenty one and upwards, batchelor, and Anna Curtis aged
upwards of twenty years a minor, spinster, by the consent of John Curtis her natural and lawful
father. Appeared personally John Spitty and John Curtis of West Thurrock consenting to the marriage :-

John Spitty
The mark of John Curtis "O"
Anna was a beneficiery under her father's will in 1799 in which she
received £300.
Anna died Intestate in 1814. An Administration of her estate was granted in the Consistory Court
of London in June 1814, page 561, value to £1,000. Her sons Thomas Curtis Spitty,
Golden Spitty and William Spitty were sworn as Administrators of her estate.
Death Duty Register - Admons 1814 Vol. 2/359 shows the beneficieries as
Thomas Curtis Spitty of Hornchurch Gent, Golden Spitty of Horndon-on-the-Hill, and
William Spitty of the same Gent.
It appears that The Horndon-on-the-Hill Parish Register was
neglected in the late 1700's. The pages for the 1780's are
obviously deficient. Also there appears the following entry in
the Parish Register in 1813 at the behest of Anna Spitty (nee
Curtis) re. the following children's baptisms :-
Listed are the children Sarah, Golden, William & Hannah and
their birth dates followed by :-
"Whereas it evidently appears from the Testimony of the mother of
the above young persons and others now living that they were all
fully baptised in this Church in their infancy by the Revd Mr
Lloyd, but neglected to be registered, therefore at the
particular request of the mother and the young people themselves
I have this 17th day of October 1813 inserted their names as
above to remedy the mistake of their not having been timely and
duly registered."
