Last Will and Testament of

William Edwards - 1847

This is the Last Will and Testament of me William Edwards of Shouldham in the County of Norfolk Farmer in manner and form following that is to say

Whereas I have for some time past carried on the business of a farmer having occupied and do now occupy under a lease which expires at Michaelmas one thousand eight hundred and forty eight certain lands in Shouldham aforesaid with messuage or tenement thereon outhouses yards and gardens thereunto belonging And whereas I am desirous that the said farming business and any lands that I may farm or occupy at the time of my decease should be carried on or farmed by my son Robert Edwards for the benefit of my dear wife Susan Edwards

Now I do hereby give and bequeath my farming business and all my interest in the unexpired lease of the land of which I now farm and all my live stock viz horses cows oxen sheep swine Also all my implements in husbandry and all my crop of corn pulse hay and whatever other my effects that shall be in or about the lands in Shouldham aforesaid of which I am now tenant or any lands or tenements whatever and wheresoever which I may hold occupy or possess any interest in at the time of my decease unto my said wife Susan Edwards during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Edwards the said farming business and the unexpired term of the said lease and all interest right or control that I may have at the time of my decease or that my wife may have at the time of her decease should she survive or outlive myself in and over any lands messuages or tenements whatsoever and wheresoever

Also I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Edwards all my live stock horses cows oxen sheep swine and all my crop of corn pulse hay and all my implements in husbandry and whatever other my effects that shall be on or about the lands in Shouldham aforesaid of which I am now tenant or on any other lands which I may hereafter have any interest in

I hereby give and bequeath unto my said wife Susan Edwards the use and enjoyment of all my household goods and furniture plate linen china books liquors and all other my household effects during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease I give and bequeath the said household goods and furniture plate linen china books liquors and all other my household effects unto my sons Robert Edwards, James Edwards and Jospeh Edwards their executors administrators and assigns in equal shares

And as to the rest and residue of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature and kind soever the same may be and not hereinbefore given and disposed of after payment of debts and legacies I do hereby give and bequeath the same unto my dear wife Susan Edwards her executors administrators and assigns

And I do hereby make ordain constitute and appoint my said sons Robert Edwards and Joseph Edwards executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixteenth day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty seven  Willm Edwards

Signed sealed published and declared by the said William Edwards the testator as and for his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto  William Walker, Joseph Wright

This Will was proved at Swaffham on the sixteenth day of December 1847 before the Rev. John Peter Evans Clerk Surrogate duly appointed of the Worshipful Charles Evans A M Official principal of the Episcopal Consistorial Court of Norwich lawfully constituted and was approved &c and admon of all and singular the goods &c., of the within named William Edwards the testator deceased was on the thirty first day of said month of December duly granted to Robert Edwards his son one of the executors within named he being duly sworn &c. Power being reserved for committing the like admon to Joseph Edwards testators son the other executor within named when he shall pray the same &c. saving &c.

Testator died 25th September 1847 - Probate granted 31st December 1847
