Last Will and Testament of
Richard Baker - 1741
In the name of God Amen I Richard Baker the
elder of the Parish of Stepney in the County of Middlesex Ropemaker being weak
in body but of sound and disposing mind and understanding do make and publish my
Last Will and Testament in manner following
Viz. it is my will and mind that all my just debts legacies and funeral expenses be in the first place duly paid and satisfied by my executor hereinafter named Also I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Ann Baker ten pounds for mourning and to my son Richard Baker and Elizabeth his wife the like sum of ten pounds apiece for mourning To my kinsman Richard Nicholson ten pounds to be paid to him by my said executor when he attains the age of twenty one years And To my kinsman Jacob Davis ten pounds to be paid to him by my said executor when he attains the age of twenty one years Also I give and bequeath unto my said loving wife Ann one annuity or yearly sum of one hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain assuing? and payable out of all and every my estate and effects whatsoever to be paid to her by four equal quarterly payments for and during the term of her natural life if she so long continue a widow and unmarried the first payment thereof to begin and be made on the day next immediately following my decease And all the rest residue and remainder of all and singular my estate and effects whatsoever both real and personal of what nature quality and quantity soever (subject to and charged and chargeable with the payment of the several legacies and annuity above mentioned) I do hereby give devise and bequeath the same unto my said son Richard his heirs executors and administrators And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said son Richard
sole executor hereof and do revoke and make void all former and other Wills and
Testaments by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be and
contain my Last Will and Testament I witness whereof I the said Richard Baker
the testator have hereunto set my hand and seal the twelfth day of October one
thousand seven hundred and forty one Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator for and as his
Last Will and Testament in the presence of us who as witnesses thereof have
subscribed our names in presence of the said testator and of each other This Will was proved at London on the fourteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty one before the Worshipful Robert Chapman Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful John Bettesworth also Doctor of Laws and Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Richard Baker the son and sole executor to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased being first sworn duly to administer the same.
