Last Will and Testament
of Jeremy Hanscombe - 1698
In the name of God Amen the sixth day of
March 1693 according to the computation of the Church of England I Jeremy
Hanscombe of Mepsall alias Mepershall in the County of Bedford
Yeoman being of perfect memory and remembrance do make and ordain this
my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following viz. First I
bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker hoping to be
saved by Jesus Christ my only Saviour and redeemer and as for my body to
be buried at the discretion of my executor thereafter nominated
Item I give to my loving mother Katherine Hanscombe all my cottage, land, and pasture ground with all the profit thereto belonging during her natural life and likewise twenty pounds to be paid to her or her disposal either in her lifetime, or at her decease to whom she pleaseth, out of the cottage land pasture, after my decease Item I give to my brother Robert Hanscombe ten shillings to be paid to him after my decease And likewise I give to my said brother Robert four pounds per annum that is to say twenty shillings quarterly and every quarter during his natural life after mine and my mothers decease And for want of payment to enter upon the cottage and closes of pasture till satisfied Item I give to my cousin Alice? Hanscombe of Upper Standon widow five pounds twelve months after mine and my mothers decease Item I give to my cousin John Hanscombe son of the aforesaid Alice Hanscombe the sum of thirty pounds twelve months after mine and my mothers and brothers decease to which payment I bind the six acres of arable land lying in the fields of Mepsall aforesaid Item I give to the widow Blane of Polchanger? in the aforesaid Parish of Mepsall twenty shillings to be paid after mine and my mothers decease Item I give to my cousin William Blundell and to his heirs forever all that my cottage lands and pasture lying and being in the Parish of Mepsall alias Meppershall in that County of Bedford (those payments and sums of money charged upon the lands being paid and discharged) after mine and my mothers decease Lastly all the rest of my goods stock and chattels I give to my
loving mother Katherine Hanscombe and make my loving mother
Katherine Hanscombe and my cousin William Blundell sole executors of
this my Last Will and Testament (the said William Blundell to be
assistant only and in trust for my mother by reason of her weakness by
old age) revoking all other wills and testaments In witness whereof I
have set to my hand and seal the day and year above written Signed sealed declared and published the day and year above
