 Last Will and Testament of
Thomas Turney
- 1713

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Turney of Cranfield in the County of Bedford Gent being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life and being willing to dispose of and settle the worldly estate with which God hath been pleased to bless me, do make constitute and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following viz. First I commend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God my creator and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor herein after named In humble hopes of joyful resurrection, through the merits of Jesus Christ my most blessed Saviour and redeemer, and for my worldly estate I give and dispose the same as followeth

First I give will devise and bequeath unto my son Thomas Turney and to his heirs and assigns forever all that my messuage or tenement situate and being in Water Eaton in the Parish of Bletchley in the County of Bucks together with all the barns stables outhouses and all other appurtenances there unto belonging now in the tenure and occupation of Bernard Fountain and also all those two closes of pasture ground to the same belonging containing by estimation five acres and also those four score acres of arable land and sward ground and five acres of meadow ground lying disposed in the common fields of Eaton aforesaid with all other my lands and premises lying in Eaton aforesaid provided he the said Thomas my son shall live to attain the age of twenty one years and not otherwise

Item I give and bequeath unto Dinah Turney my daughter the sum of three hundred and fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain and my will is that the said sum of three hundred and fifty pounds shall be paid unto her the said Dinah by my son Thomas, when she shall attain the age of twenty four years if she the said Dinah shall so long live and my will further is that my lands and premises in Water Eaton shall be subject to the payment of the said sum of three hundred and fifty pounds to her the said Dinah my daughter as aforesaid by my son Thomas as aforesaid

And if my said son Thomas Turney should happen to die before he hath attained the age of twenty one years then and in such case I do give will devise and bequeath all the same messuage or tenement two closes of pasture ground four score acres of arable land and sward and five acres of meadow ground with the appurtenances in Eaton aforesaid unto my son Tayer Turney (Tawyer Turney) when he shall attain the age of twenty one years and to his heirs and assigns forever and my will further is that he the said Tawyer shall pay unto Dinah my daughter the sum of five hundred and fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain when she shall attain the age of twenty three years which said sum of five hundred and fifty pounds and no more shall be paid unto her the said Dinah out of the estate and premises in Water Eaton above mentioned, and if it shall happen that my son Thomas and my son Tawyer shall both depart this life before they shall severally attain the age of twenty one years as aforesaid then and such case I give will devise and bequeath all my lands tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances in Water Eaton aforesaid unto Dinah Turney my daughter her heirs and assigns forever

Also my mind and will is that all the rents issues and profits arising from my said estates in Water Eaton shall be and enure to the sole use and benefit of Ann my loving wife such time as my said children shall attain their respective ages as is before expressed the better to enable her to educate and bring up my said children and to her care alone

Also I give will and bequeath unto Ann my loving wife the sum of one hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto her out of my freehold estate at Water Eaton aforesaid

And for the prevention of any differences which may hereafter arise concerning the inheritance of my real estate in case it shall happen that all my three children shall depart this life without leaving issue lawfully begotten and born of any of their bodies and without appointing the disposal of the same then and in such case I do hereby limit and appoint all my estate whatsoever in Water Eaton and Cranfield aforesaid as follows viz. I do will and bequeath unto Ann my loving wife the sum of five hundred pounds over and above the sum of one hundred pounds in this my will already mentioned and expressed the same to be paid unto her out of my estate in Water Eaton in the Parish of Bletchley aforesaid and accordingly I do hereby charge the said estate with the payment thereof

Also I give will devise and bequeath the sum of ten pounds yearly forever freed and discharges of all taxes and incumbrances whatsoever as a rent charge or annuity to be paid quarterly at the four most usual quarterly payments yearly and every year unto the Minister of the Parish Church of Cranfield in the County of Bedford and the Church Wardens of the same for the time being to be by them from time to time employed according to the best of their discretions for the instruction of the poor children of the said Parish in the catechism of the Church of England and in reading writing and casting accomplishments? and my will is that the Clerk of the said Parish for the time being shall be the School Master provided he be a man of sober life and conversation knowing in the principals of religion and skillful in reading writing and arithmetic

Also I give will devise and bequeath all and every my lands tenements and hereditaments in Water Eaton and Cranfield unto my loving cousins Robert Parrott of Leighton in the County of Bedford Draper, Richard Parrot of Newport Pagnell in the County of Bucks Draper, Thomas Dell of Hollingdon in the Parish of Soulbury in the County of Bucks Yeoman and Robert Dell of Lidlington in the County of Bedford Yeoman their heirs and assigns forever subject to the payment of one hundred pounds and five hundred pounds unto Ann my loving wife as likewise so the payment of the annuity or rent charge of the sum of ten pounds yearly of lawful money of Great Britain to the Minister and Church Wardens of the Parish of Cranfield as in this my will as already specified and expressed And my will is and I do hereby appoint that my freehold estates in Cranfield stand charged forever and be subject to the payment of the said annuity or rent charge as afore specified Also my will is that all the rents issues and profits of the said estates in Water Eaton and Cranfield shall be and enure unto Ann my loving wife during her natural life and that she shall have the sole power of letting the same to farm or otherwise holding them in her own hands during her natural life and shall not be accountable for any of the profits thereof

All the residue and remainder of my goods chattels rights and credits after my just debts and funeral expenses are discharged I do give and bequeath unto Ann my loving wife whom I do make constitute and ordain sole executrix of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke all and every other will and wills by me at any time heretofore made and ordained In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty ninth day of December one thousand seven hundred and twelve
