Deed - Franklin County Courthouse, Columbus, Ohio, (Delaware County) Deed Book A, pg 91 John Stites Received
New York 15th March 1797 from John Stites land warrant of the United
States three thousand four hundred acres of land as a collateral security for
the payment of a bond given by said Stites to Abraham Depreyster John Depreyster
Charles W. Peal and John Stagg sr. for six hundred and fifty pounds the one half
to be paid the first of April next the other half the first of February next as
witness my hand the day and date above New
York April 23 1799 With
which warrants and the addition of six more the said Stites caused to be located
in the names of Abraham De Peyster as trustee for him and the others concerned
four thousand acres of land in the military tract of the United States lying in
the eighteenth Range sixth township and second quarter Know
all men by these presents that I John Stites late of Elizabeth Town in the
County of Essex and State of New Jersey do by these presents revoke recall and
utterly disclaim all power and authority given or supposed to e given by Letter
of Attorney (or any other way for the purposes of selling or disposing of the
above described and patented lands on any other principle than subject to the
equity of redemption) by the said John Stites unto Wm De Preyster or either of
his children named in the above receipt hereby declaring any act or deed by
virtue of said power or authority utterly void and of none effect. In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 9th July
1803 Signed sealed and delivered in presence of John Maxwell N.B. :- This deed is indexed under Stiles in the Fairfield County, Ohio deed indexes, and the deed book E-221 records his name as John Stiles in the deed. However the land in question is identical to the military grant to John Stites (GLO records OH2100_.233 – Range 18, Township 6, Quarter 2). As so often happens, his name was mis-transcribed as Stiles by the clerk. As such I have corrected the name in this transcription to prevent the error being perpetuated. LDS film # 2026551 |
