42. James LEONARD was born about 1781 in Mildenhall, Suffolk4. He died on the 6th June 1862 in Shouldham, Norfolk2. He was buried on 10 Jun 1862 in Shouldham1.

James Leonard's name is spelt variously as Leonard, Linnard, Linneard, Lineard & Lyneard.

His occupations have been recorded as :-
Agricultural Labourer (1841, 1851 Censuses)
Labourer (daughter Sarah's Marriage Certificate 1839)

In the Shouldham Poor Rate assessment of 1824 James is shown as the occupier of a Cottage owned by William Wilkin.

His parents have yet to be determined. His year of birth varies from
circa 1781 - burial in June 1862 aged 79.
circa 1776-1781 :- 1841 census aged 60 (note ages rounded out to nearest 5 years in 1841).
circa 1780 -: 1851 census aged 70.

There are two entries in the Mildenhall Parish Register around this period :-
1 Aug 1779 son of James & Anne.
10 Aug 1788 son Robert & Sarah.
The baptism in 1779 is the nearest match to his age as recorded, however another researcher has "claimed" this baptism for his James Leonard. His research has not been checked by us as yet to justify or not his "claim".

He was married to Hannah LOCKE on 20 Apr 1812 in Shouldham1.

43. Hannah LOCKE was christened on 16 Mar 1783 in Necton, Norfolk1. She died in 1860 in Shouldham3. She was buried on 18 Apr 1860 in Shouldham, Norfolk1.

Hannah's mother died in 1789, her father a year later in 1790 leaving at least 6 children orphaned aged between 4 and 15 years old. It is not known who cared for them nor where, but three of the sisters married in Shouldham between 1801 and 1812. There does not appear to be another Lock family in Shouldham. Shouldham is some 12 miles from Necton.

Children were:
