The Last Will and Testament

of  William Slater  -  1790


In the name of God Amen I William Slater Husbandman of the Parish of Rochford in the County of Essex being of sound mind and memory and understanding do make this my Last Will and Testament in form and manner following, that is to say

I give and bequeath unto my sister Mary Carter of the Parish of Rochford in the aforesaid County Bricklayer the sum of one hundred pounds which said sum of money is now in the hands of four separate persons

Also I give and bequeath the sum of three hundred pounds to be equally divided between the following persons, Viz.

Mary Carter of Rochford aforesaid Bricklayer and in the aforesaid County

James Slater my brother Inn Keeper at Horndon in the said County

my brother Thomas Slater Husbandman at Hundon in the County of Suffolk

my brother John Slater Husbandman at Pitsea in the County of Essex

my brother Joseph Slater Wood Comber at Bury St Edmunds in the County of Suffolk

Elizabeth Aves Widow at Overton in the County of Essex, and

Ann Dale at Otton Belchamp in the said County

after paying my just and lawful debts and all expenses attending my funeral

Also I leave my sister Mary Carter of Rochford aforesaid and my brother James Slater of Horndon aforesaid jointly my Executrix and Executor to this my Last Will and Testament And I do hereby revoke and disannull all former wills by me made And I hereby declare this to be my Last Will and Testament In Testimony of I have hereunto set my hand and seal and my seal this tenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight.

Proved on the fifteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety before the Reverend William Potter Clerk Surrogate by the oath of James Slater brother of the deceased and one of the executors to whom administration was granted he being first sworn duly to administer. / Power being reserved of making the like grant to Mary Carter sister of the deceased and the other executrix when she shall apply for the same.
