Last Will and Testament

of  Jonas Skilder  -  1697

In the name of God Amen I Jonah Skilder of Bowers Gifford in the County of Essex Yeoman being sick and weak in body but of perfect memory and understanding do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following

first I bequeath my soul unto God that gave it trusting in the infinite merits of my dearest Saviour for the forgiveness of all my sins and for the worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I dispose of them (that is to say)

I give and bequeath unto my brother George the sum of five shillings

I give unto my beloved wife Catharine all thereof my goods and chattels w’soever

and do constitute appoint her my executrix beseeching he to be very just in paying my debts and funeral charges

In witness whereof I do hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of July 1697
