These lists contain the names of the military service
veterans from whom John Stites purchased land warrants, which he then used to
claim land grants in the US Military District in Ohio.
It is sometimes assumed from these land warrants that land
was granted to John for service in the American forces. This is not so. John was
a merchant and land speculator, and this can be clearly seen from these lists
naming the veterans for whose warrants he held.
