Land Tax Redemption Certificate

Certificate of John Gibbard and Jn Higgins Two of the Commissioners of Land Tax acting for the Hundred of Willey in the said County That an Estate belonging to Farrer Grove Spurgeon Farrer situate in the Parish of Stagsden in the said Hundred in the Occupation of Thomas Bass Junior consisting of a Messauge and appurtenances and about forty five Acres of Arable Meadow Pasture and Woodland which said Estate is assessed and charged in the Assessment for the said Parish of Stagsden for the Year ending the twenty fifth day of March 1804 together with an Estate of Tithes belonging to one of the Cottages in the University of Cambridge of the Sum of Twenty three Pounds which said Tithes the said Farrer Grove Spurgeon Farrer holds under Lease from the said College they did settle and adjust the proportion of Land Tax which ought to be borne and paid by the said Farrer Grove Spurgeon Farrer for his said Estate of a Messuage and Lands at the Yearly sum of Three Pounds and ten shillings And that the Sum of Three Pounds and ten shillings is the Proportion of the said Farrer Grove Spurgeon Farrer for the Land Tax for his said Estate at Stagsden aforesaid for the Year ending the 25th day of March 1804.

Also Certificate of a Contract dated the 22nd day of December 1804 Whereby George Edwards Esquire and Anthony Danvert Clerk Two of the Commissioners appointed for the Purposes of the said Act for the County of Bedford Certified that they had Contracted with Farrer Grove Spurgeon Farrer of Cold Brayfield in the ... County of Buckingham Esquire for the Redemption by him of Thirty nine Pounds nine shillings and eight pence Land Tax charged upon a Messuage or Farm house with the Homestead and appurtenances thereunto belonging and four hundred and ninety acres by estimation of Arable Land Ley Meadow Pasture and Wood ground situate lying and being in the Parish of Harrold in the County of Bedford and which premises are assessed in the assessment made for the said Parish of Harrold for the Year 1804 as follows Viz. Farrer Grove Spurgeon Proprietor John Pickering Occupier £30.6.8 Sum assessed ..
Also another Messuage or Farmhouse with the homestead and appurtenances thereunto belonging and One hundred and thirty Acres by estimation of Arable Land Ley Meadow Pasture and sweard ground and which are assessed in the said assessment as follows Viz. Farrer Grove Spurgeon Proprietor (space) Walton Occupier £9.3.0 Sum assessed

And for the redemption by him of Thirty one Pounds four shillings and sixpence land tax being the land tax charged upon a Messuage or Farmhouse with the Homestead and Appurtenances thereunto belonging and three hundred and sixty Acres by estimation of Arable land ley meadow pasture and sweard ground situate in the Parish of Wimmington in the County of Bedford and which premises are assessed in the Assessment made for the said Parish of Wimmington for the year 1804 as follows Viz. Reverend Mr Spurgeon Proprietor James Lamb Occupier £31.4.6 Sum assessed

And for the redemption by him of Twelve Pounds fifteen shillings and sixpence three farthings Land Tax being the Land tax charged upon a Messuage or Farmhouse with the Homestead and appurtenances thereunto belonging and one hundred and Sixty Acres of Arable land ley meadow pasture and sweard ground with the Tithes thereof situate in the Parish of Kempston in the County of Bedford and which Premises are assessed in the assessment made for the said Parish of Kempston for the Year 1804 as follows Viz. Farrer G. S. Esq Proprietor John Burr Junr Occupier £12.15.6 ¾ Sum assessed

And for the Redemption by him of Four Pounds one shilling and eight pence Land tax being the Land tax charged upon a Messuage or Farmhouse with the Homestead and Appurtenances thereunto belonging and eighty Acres by estimation of Arable land Meadow pasture and sweard ground situate in the Parish of Cardington in the County of Bedford and which premises are assessed in the assessment made for the said Parish of Cardington for the Year 1804 as follows Viz. Farrer Grove Spurgeon Farrer Esq Proprietor Rich. Garrett Occupier £4.1.8 Sum assessed

And for the redemption by him of four pounds four shillings and two pence Land Tax being the Land Tax charged upon a Messuage or Farmhouse with the Homestead and appurtenances thereunto belonging Two Tenements or Dwelling houses and fifty Acres of Arable land ley meadows pasture sweard ground and wood ground situate in the Parish of Marston Mortain in the County of Bedford and which Premises are assessed in the assessment made in the Parish of Marston Mortain for the Year 1804 as follows Viz. Wm Farrer Esq Proprietor John Randall Occupier £4.4.2 Sum assessed

And for the redemption by him of Three Pounds ten shillings being his apportioned share of Twenty three Pounds Land Tax charged upon the Messuage and premises herein after described (together with other Hereditaments belonging to one of the Colleges of the University of Cambridge) Viz. A Messuage or Farmhouse with the Homestead and Appurtenances thereunto belonging and forty five Acres by estimation of Arable Land ley meadow pasture sweard and wood ground situate in the Parish of Stagsden in the County of Bedford and which premises are (together with the said other premises belonging to one of the Colleges of the University of Cambridge) assessed in the assessment made for the said Parish of Stagsden for the Year 1804 as follows Viz. Wm Ferrer Esq Proprietor Thos Bass Junr Occupier £23.0.0
Sum assessed .....Total £95.5.6 ¾

Consideration declared to be Three thousand and four hundred and ninety three Pounds ten shillings and seven pence three farthings Capital Stock in the Three Pounds per Centum Bank Annuities by ten Instalments .....

Receipt indorsed the 4th day of February 1806 by J. Waldron one of the Cashiers of the Bank of England for £2136.12.6 Consols for the six first Instalments
