Mortgage - Essex County, New Jersey. Mortgage Book D, pg 247 John Stites “all that messuage or tenement or lot of land commonly
known and called by the name of Thomas’s Ferry, are mortgaged by John Stites of Elizabeth Town in the
County of Essex and State of New Jersey to Robinson Thomas of the same place for
the better securing the payment of one thousand pounds current money of the
State of New York agreeably to the condition of a certain bond or obligation and
promissory note bearing even date with these presents – Said mortgage is dated the 1st of September in
the year of our Lord 1796 was acknowledged before William Shute Esq. the 7th
of October 1796 was received in the office and recorded the 24th
