“all that certain tract of land situate lying and being in the bounds of Elizabeth Town at a place called short-hills, beginning at a small rock in William Green’s garden,
from thence East as the horizon line runs seventeen chains to the land of Walter Smith,
thence South twenty chains to the land of Jeremiah Mulford junior,
thence West seventeen chains to the corner of a tract of land which said Mulford purchased of Joseph Moss or Morss,
thence North twenty four chains to the beginning rock
by estimation containing thirty seven acres more or less
bounded West and South by the land of Jeremiah Mulford junior,
East by the land of Walter Smith,
North by the horizon line, that the purchasers of Elizabeth Town claims for their bounds,” 

which said tract of land with its appurtenances is mortgaged by Philip Denman junior of the Borough of Elizabeth, County of Essex and Province of East New Jersey carpenter unto John Stites of the same place esquire for the payment of fifty pounds current money with lawful interest arising from the first day of May last preceding the date of the mortgage which is on the thirtieth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy four, 

it was acknowledged before Isaac Woodruff esquire the twenty fourth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four, was brought to the office and recorded the same day.
