The Will of William Lane of Swanbourne – 1639
In the name of God Amen : The nine and twentieth daie of March in the yeare of our Lord god, one thousand six hundred thirtie nine I William Lane of Swanburne in the Countie of Bucks yeoman, being sicke in bodie, but perfect in memory the Lord god be praised, whearefore I make or ordaine this my last will & testament in manner & forme following : First I commend my soule into the hands of allmightie god trusting to be saved by the death & passion of Jesus Christ my onely Saviour, my bodie I commend to the earth in sure hope of resurrection to eternall life at the appearing of my saviour Jesus Christ : And as concerning my goods or chattels, I give or bequeath in manner & forme following:
First I give unto my sonne Ralfe Lane all my sheep & lambes,
Item I give unto my daughter Joane Lane five pounds,
Item I give unto my daughter Susan Lane five poundes,
Item I give unto my daughter Alice Lane five pounds,
Also I give unto my sonne Robert Lane my part of the teame, & twoe dry beasts & all the ymplements belonging to the teame, & the plowe timber upon condition that my sonne Robert is to paie unto my three daughters above mentioned five pounds apiece upon Saint Thomas daie next ensuing the date heareof,
Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Short tenn shillings.
Item I give unto my sonne John Lane tenn shillings,
Item I give unto my daughter Margaret Coles twentie shillings,
Item I give unto every one of my childrens children five shillings apiece.
All the rest of my goods undistributed after my debts paide & legacies performed, & my bodie orderly laide into the ground I give unto Joane Lane my wife whome I make or appoint the executrix of this my last will & testament,
In witness wheareof I have caused this to be written and have heareunto set my hand & seale the daie & yeare first above written: The aforesaid legacies with the executrix is to paie are to be paide within nine monthes after his decease; in the presence of us whose names are subscribed
